In 2017 Copper’s Cat Commune responded to an urgent plea from a local colony caregiver - the cats she fed and TNR’d were under attack. Someone had begun shooting feral cats; in total 5 cats sustained wounds. The Commune sprang into action providing medical attention to the injured cats and relocation to safety on Commune property. Salazar was the only cat in the colony who had escaped being injured before relocating to the Commune. He joined his recuperating friends in what became known as the Tripod Enclosure as several of his colony-mates required amputations for their injuries.
In 2022 during a terrible heat wave the remaining cats from this enclosure were assimilated into the main enclosure to provide access to air conditioning and fans. Though he came to the Commune resolutely feral, Salazar decided quite suddenly after the move that he liked people. He likes people so much we would love for him to find a loving home of his own.
