The Veterinary Review - January 7, 2021
This premiere post for our weekly veterinary review is a bit odd. We are tracing our review back 2 weeks instead of this week. This week our vet, Stuebner Airline Veterinary Clinic, has been closed for a thorough Covid-19 cleaning protocol. After having worked at a few vet clinics – including the one we now use, I can safely say that ours is the most diligent about cleanliness and disinfection I have even seen. And I have always worked in clean clinics.
Back on December 28th, a precious old man named Tennessee was taken into our vet’s office by one of his foster parents, Jon. He went in to see Dr. Schmitt for a general exam, pre-surgical labwork, and to have his eyes checked. Tennessee needed to have one of his eyes removed due to a very painful buildup of pressure. His exam and his labwork turned out great, so we moved forward with the scheduled surgery on December 29th.
On December 29th, Tennessee was dropped off by Jon early in the morning. He just chilled in a cage until his surgery time came up. Dr. Heimlich performed the surgery since Dr. Schmitt was not there. Everything went smoothly, and they decided to keep him overnight. He went home the next day on antibiotics and great pain medication.
He has been doing extremely well in his new home. He loves his heated bed, and just purrs when he is loved on or combed. He is completely blind at this point, so he has some adjustments to make, but Jon and Julia say he is getting along like a champ.
Tennessee has some upcoming dental work needed, so you will be seeing him here again. In the meantime, keep yourselves, your loved ones, and your furry friends safe!
